Selkirk Montessori is one of the few Montessori schools in the province providing Montessori programs for students from age three to 14, encompassing early primary, lower elementary, upper elementary and middle school. We offer a collaborative and collegial school team and a supportive and engaged school community.
Why You’ll Love It Here
Founded by parents in 1980, Selkirk Montessori School has grown from a single-grade program to a purpose-built facility offering education from preschool to Grade 8. With a team-teaching model, educators share responsibilities, reduce daily stress and have more time to plan and support students.
Our school offers strong staff-to-student ratios, dedicated specialists in French, music, PE and technology, and a collaborative culture where staff support one another personally and professionally.
What We Value
Guided by the Montessori philosophy, our mission is to provide a caring school community that nurtures every child’s natural curiosity for learning and supports the full development of their academic, social, artistic, physical and life skills.
Our vision is to cultivate a lifelong love of learning in our children and inspire them to realize their full potential while enjoying life’s journey and positively contributing to the world around them.
What Makes Us Unique
Being a member of the Selkirk Montessori community ROCKS! Our interactions, behaviours and problem-solving centre around:
Respect: seek to understand each other, take care of our environment, and work to create a positive environment
Open-mindedness: celebrate diversity, try new things, be flexible thinkers, approach collaboration with curiosity
Communication: actively listen, thoughtfully speak, honour and express our own feeling and ideas, acknowledge and consider the feelings and ideas of others
Kindness: help and inspire others, include everyone, use compassion, solve problems, take great care with our community
Success: challenge ourselves and persevere when obstacles arise, make a difference in our community, work together to accomplish big things, participate in service work, be true to ourselves (personal integrity)
Our School Community
Selkirk Montessori is a well-established school offering the full B.C. curriculum to Grade 8 in a purpose-built facility beside Victoria’s Gorge waterway. With Montessori-trained staff, low student-teacher ratios and specialist programs in music, French and technology, students benefit from a rich, supportive learning environment.
From preschool to middle school, children learn at their own pace through guided exploration. The school fosters independence, confidence and a lifelong love of learning, preparing students for a smooth transition to future studies.
